SalamAir launches direct service to Colombo

Oman-based SalamAir has announced direct flight service from Muscat to Colombo, one of the most vibrant cities of Sri Lanka, in a move that enhances the airline’s subcontinent profile.

The Colombo route is the airline’s seventh destination in the subcontinent, which includes Dhaka, Kathmandu, Karachi, Multan, Sialkot and Chattogram (Chittagong).

The Muscat-Colombo direct route marks SalamAir’s first entry into the Sri Lankan market.  

Scheduled to commence on December 24, 2019, the new link will operate four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departing Muscat at 2:40 local time and arriving in Colombo at 8:10 local time. The flight will depart Colombo at 9:10 local time arriving in Muscat at 12:10 local time.

One-way tickets to Colombo are now available at a special promotional fare of RO45 ($116.5), an airline statement said.

Captain Mohamed Ahmed, CEO of SalamAir said: “It gives us immense pleasure to introduce operations to Sri Lanka, one of the most sought-after destinations in South Asia. First and foremost, this move will benefit the large Sri Lankan expatriate community living in Oman. It will also cater to the leisure and business travellers from and to Oman and Sri Lanka.”

“Introduction of flights to the beautiful city of Colombo will contribute to further growth and strengthening of ties between Oman and Sri Lanka. We will continue to expand our network to meet the requirements of our guests. It is our constant endeavour to provide affordable and proficient services to all the destinations we fly,” he added.

SalamAir currently operates three Airbus A320 aircraft and four Airbus A320neo aircraft making it the first Omani carrier to utilise the highly rated single aisle aircraft. SalamAir flies to international destinations including Chattogram, Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, Karachi, Multan, Sialkot, Shiraz, Kathmandu, Khartoum, Dhaka, Alexandria, Riyadh, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Tehran, Istanbul and to domestic routes Muscat, Salalah, and Suhar.

Additional passenger services to compliment the customer experience on the home-grown airline include options for extra luggage, seat and meal selection. – TradeArabia News Service
