Oman is planning to build its first waste-to-energy project in South Batinah Governorate with a contract award expected to be announced before the end of 2018, a top official was quoted as saying in a media report.
The proposed venture, which will utilise municipal waste as fuel, will have 50–60 MW of capacity, Yaqoob Saif al Kiyumi, CEO of Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) was quoted in an Oman Observer report.
A feasibility study being conducted by OPWP will determine the optimum capacity, he said.
The project will be within proximity of one of the biggest landfills managed by be’ah — the state-run solid waste management utility, the report said.
