Oman Data Park, the first managed service provider in the sultanate, said its chief executive Engineer Maqbool Al Wahaibi has been named as the Technology Person of the Year at the annual AIWA Awards held in Muscat.
 
The first localised cloud service provider in the Sultanate, Oman Data Park currently runs three data centres located in Kom, Wattayah, and Duqm. These three are interconnected to provide resilience, interconnectivity of data and business continuity.
 
The award was presented by Dr Rasheed bin al Safi Al Huraibi, Chairman, Oman Tender Board, to Al Wahaibi at the red-carpet awards ceremony held recently at Hotel Sheraton Oman. 
 
This year marked the eighth edition of the annual AIWA Awards, instituted by Alam Al Iktisaad Wal A’mal (AIWA), the leading Arabic business publication from United Media Services. 
 
Top five best performing companies, based on their performance on select seven financial parameters in the financial year 2017, were felicitated in three different categories. The achievements that went beyond the balance sheet were also recognized through special awards, said a statement from Oman Data Park.
 
Al Wahaibi was felicitated for his exemplary services in leading Oman Data Park to provide reliable, secure and flexible solutions delivered with unmatched expertise and quality of service, it stated. 
 
As a part of the executive management and founding team that established Oman Data Park, Al Wahaibi has been instrumental in developing solutions tailored to address the banks, financial Institutions, oil and gas sector, healthcare, government, education and professional services sectors, it added. 
 
On the big win, Al Wahaibi said: "The award is a recognition of Oman Data Park’s contribution not only in providing ICT services to the corporates in the sultanate, but also in being instrumental in the country’s digital transformation and smart revolution."
 
Currently Oman Data Park is serving around 450 corporates ranging from large to mid to small companies. They include the largest banks and the largest oil and gas companies in the country. 
It is also serving some of the leading companies in Oman such as Occidental Oman, Oman Oil and Haya Water besides some overseas clients.
