Business opportunities for Oman SMEs showcased

An exhibition showcasing business opportunities for the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through targeting purchasing directors and decision makers of public and private bodies, was held earlier this week in Muscat, Oman.

Presenting an ideal platform to promote services and products of businesses the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Incubation Exhibition was organised by the National Business Centre (NBC), which falls under the umbrella of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), in cooperation with the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada).

As part of the event that was inaugurated by Engineer Ahmed bin Hassan Al Dheeb, undersecretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, NBC launched its first edition of Mentorship Programme to play a role in developing skills of the incubated SMEs in NBC and Riyada.  

The exhibition presented an interactive platform to allow SMEs and the interested bodies to enhance communication and discuss collaboration opportunities, said a statement from the organisers.

The event featured 38 SMEs representing the currently incubated companies in NBC and Riyada and those that graduated from the two incubators, in addition to companies that graduated from other programmes managed by NBC, it said.

The participating companies are specialised in consultancy and training, security and safety services, ICT and innovation, jewellery, tourism and medical products, it added.

The Mentorship Programme that was launched along the lines of the exhibition aspires to facilitate access to industrial leaders and experts as mentors; support the incubated companies to adapt in a rapidly changing environment; contribute to empowering these companies, and explore channels to promote entrepreneurship development.

The programme is designed to help Omani youth to benefit from the experience of leading mentors in the entrepreneurship field and other fields in the Sultanate, which play a great role in achieving growth, excellence and sustainability of the incubated companies.

Mentorship Programme will continue for six months that will comprise one meeting per month between the mentors and the incubated companies. The meetings will take place in the forms personal meetings, phone discussions, or through emails, depending on the circumstances of the companies and as agreed by the parties.

It should be noted that NBC is an initiative launched by the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) at KOM to offer promising Omani entrepreneurs a platform to develop their business ideas and advance them into growing ventures.

The services of NBC are divided into three phases, comprising pre-incubation, during incubation, and acceleration phase.

The centre seeks to facilitate and support the growth of investable ideas into successful businesses; build entrepreneurial skills through dedicated and focused training, coaching and mentoring; and provide business support facilities from office space, administrative support, financial support and consultancy services that are crucial in ensuring the success and survival of new ventures. – TradeArabia News Service
