Over 100 Omani companies, particularly SMEs, will receive help and advice at the Oman Export Week 2019, to be held later this year in the sultanate.

The announcement was made by Sajda Al Ghaithy, Ithraa’s acting director general for marketing and media, at an export event held at Al Mouj Golf Club.

With a particular focus on small and mid-sized businesses, Ithraa’s second Oman Export Week (OEW19) is scheduled to be held from October 27 to 31, at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Al Ghaithy said: “Oman has long been an outward looking trading nation. At our best, we’ve done business in every corner of the globe. It’s in our DNA to travel, engage, trade and sell. And today, exporting is more important to Oman’s economic ambitions than it has ever been.”

According to Al Ghaithy, OEW19 workshops will be interactive and practical, covering export essentials for firms new to doing business overseas; what it means to build an international brand; Made In Oman factory tours for school and college students; how to develop a digital strategy and increase online enquiries and sales; advising local artisans on how to access the $250 billion global creative industries market; as well as meet-the-buyer sessions.

Despite recent economic challenges, global exports in 2017 were worth more than double than they were in 1997. On the home front, Oman’s non-oil exports reached $8.2 billion in 2017 up from $6.2 billion in 2016.

Nasima Al Balushi, Ithraa’s director general for investment and export, said: “This is a remarkable success, yet there is still so much more to achieve. From car batteries, fragrances and fibre optic cables to footwear, marble, ceramics, honey products, confectionary and more, every day, Omani exporters are succeeding in international markets. However, many opportunities await.”

Omani exports to high-growth markets in Asia and Africa are on the rise, showing that the government’s long-term economic plan to develop and nurture the sultanate’s manufacturing sector is delivering results.

Ahmed Tabook, Asyad’s director, market development and OEW18 supporter, said: “We believe at our group that providing high-quality and cost-effective logistics services is a key factor to ensure the competitiveness of Omani products and the ability to reach regional and global markets.”

“Our partnership with Ithraa comes in line with our strategy to establish a partnership with the public and private sectors. We are excited about the success of the second edition of OEW due to the positive outcomes that were achieved during the first edition,” he added.

According to Al Ghaithy, over 20 experts, people running successful companies that are exporting to the four corners of the world through to niche, small batch manufacturers who cater for high-end markets, to consultants, social media experts, bankers to civil servants tasked with supporting and promoting Omani exporters will be involved in OEW19, all helping local companies realize their export ambitions.

Ithraa’s acting director general of marketing and media concluded: “Manufacturing has been central to Oman’s economy and is key to the creation and retention of good paying jobs, providing a solid standard of living for Omani families. In fact, a strong manufacturing sector is fundamental to Oman’s continued prosperity and vital to boosting our non-oil exports.” – TradeArabia News Service
